With each passing year, I grow wiser and more based in reality, choosing less and less to participate in the delusions that most people revel in.  The Festive Season for me has always been about spending time with family and loved ones, but given our family and closest friends are scattered all over the world, I have for many years now, chosen to spend Christmas as the most ancient peoples once did, observing the original ritual that ensued at this time of year, which I shall go on to explain, but first I shall explain the true purpose and origin of Christmas.

Christmas as we have come to know it, is largely a construct of Christianity, and although I do embody the Christ Consciousness, choosing always to be kind, love thy neighbour etc, I have through my various studies into ancient culture, which have manifested in several books that I have authored, realised that most of our modern day pass times and rituals are rooted in some form of ancient cult ritualism, which pre-date modern day Christianity.

Like all annual celebrations such as Easter and Halloween, Christmas is a SOLAR RITUAL, being the most significant of all.  On the 21 December, it is what we know as WINTER SOLSTICE, marking the shortest day and the longest night of the year.  The word “solstice” is derived from sol, the Latin word for “sun.”  The ancients added sol to -stit- (a participial stem of ‘sistere’, which means “to stand still”) and came up with ‘solstitium’.  Middle English speakers shortened ‘solstitium’ to ‘solstice’ in the 14th century.  Indeed, this is the time of year that the sun appears to STAND STILL for a period of 3 days, having reached its most Southern point in the sky.  On the 25 December, the sun rises one degree to the North, which is an marks the beginning of the new solar cycle, meaning the days begin to get longer again.

Allegorically, the sun is dead for three days, and then is born anew on the 25 December, which is why Jesus is said to be the Son / Sun of God being an Astrotheological hybrid of a pagan Sun God or Solar Deity, such as the Roman Sol Invictus, the meaning the “unconquered sun”.

Christianity as we know it was formally canonized by the Roman Emperor Constantine I after the assembly of the Council of Nicaea in 325 AD, which had the added effect of many ancient so called “pagan” traditions being “christianized”.  For example, here in Portugal, Mid Summer / Solstice, became the St. John’s day.

FERTILITY & AGRARIAN RITUALS

The reason ancient peoples followed the sun and celebrated the Solstice and Equinox, is to know when to plant seeds, sow the earth, and when to harvest.  Ancient agrarian and fertility rituals are as old as civilization, and they are still a fundamental part of our modern day culture.  Examples of this are Easter, which is a celebration of spring, as indicated by the symbols of eggs and rabbits, and of course Halloween, which is a harvest time ritual, as indicated by the appearance of pumpkins as common Halloween / Samhain iconography.

SACRIFICE

All solar rituals have an element of sacrificial or votive offerings, being the giving of items that is not intended to be retrieved.  At Christmas we give gifts, at Easter we give Easter eggs, and at Halloween we give candy as per the tradition of Trick or Treat.

FEASTING & FASTING

One of the most common aspects of solar rituals is a feast or fast.  For example, at Christmas, it is tradition to have a feast, which is commonly composed of dishes such as Beef Wellington or Glazed Ham.  But in ancient times, the Christmas day feast on the 25 December was preceded by a 3 day fast during for the days of the 22, 23 and 24 December, being the days when the sun is supposedly “dead”, henceforth this is what I refer to as the DEATH OF THE SUN RITUAL, which my husband and I observe, by complete fasting (with the exception of water) for three days. This fast is broken by the traditional Christmas day feast, although it must be said, that after three days of fasting, I definitely cannot eat a massive feast, so we usually have a smaller meal than most people do on Christmas day.

DEATH OF THE SUN RITUAL

The DEATH OF THE SUN RITUAL starts on the 21st December, which is a day of reflection and gratitude for the past solar cycle, and this is usually the day we have our big Festive Season meal in preparation for the following 3 days of fasting. During the three day fast on 22, 23 and 24 December, we are quite and still, with little internet or TV, no contact with anybody, as we meditate and set our intentions for the next solar cycle, going deep within to work with the forces of the quantum dimensions to cosmically entangle in a high vibrational and constructive way.  On the morning of the 25 December, we perform a ritual (the details of which remain private to us as adepts of occult knowledge) at sun rise on the edge of the cliff, to honour the birth of the sun / Son of God (Jesus), whilst noting the interesting astronomical alignment which is allegorically chronicled as the Nativity story surrounding the birth of Jesus.

THE NATIVITY STORY

The Nativity story states that Three Kings or Three Wise Men, followed the star in the East to the birth of the Sun / Son of God.  This is actually another Astrotheological story, as the three stars of Orion’s Belt (which represent the Three Kings) form a straight line with Sirius ( The star in the East), and when you follow that line through, it points to the exact place on the horizon where the sun rises  on Christmas morning.  The sun, having moved one degree to the North, thus indicates the start of a new solar cycle.

In fact, this is such a commonly acknowledged fact amongst ancient cultures, that there are numerous pre Christian Sun Gods who are also born on the 25 December.  In fact, the story of Jesus being born on the 25 December is nothing more than an adaptation of older religious beliefs, and is not unique to Christianity.  In fact early church leaders appropriated the 25 December as the birthday of Jesus, as it was a day that was already sacred to many different cultures around the world.
